Monarch butterflies: What you need to know

I absolutely love nature. And originally hailing from the upper Midwest, I am very familiar with the concept of migration. Most notably on any given fall day, one will see flocks and flocks of geese making their annual V-shaped trek to warmer climates. This week here in San Antonio however, I was treated to a migration that I had never before experienced....as my back yard was taken over by swarms of monarch butterflies. Something caught my eye out my living room window...and when I went to check it out, I had no idea what I was even looking at. I Googled “moth swarm San Antonio” and a bunch of articles popped up explaining the late September / early October monarch migration through our fine city. I just went out back with my son and marveled at nature in action. Pretty damn cool!
