Deborah Harry broke onto the punk scene in New York’s Bowery with her band Blondie. Regulars at the famous (or infamous) CBGB, Blondie’s roots were squarely planted in Punk...though they quickly began experimenting with a variety of sounds and styles. Harry makes the list as one who helped change the image of female vocalists with her look, attitude, and versatility. Whether it was embracing her punk roots, writing and performing pop hits like “One Way Or Another”, or even winning over the Disco crowd with songs like “Heart of Glass”...Deborah Harry never compromised and never cared what the critics thought.
