Greatest Drummers: John Bonham - Joe's Garage July 17th

My look at some of the greatest rock drummers of all-time finally goes beyond a three-piece band today as I spotlight the late great John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Widely considered the greatest drummer and biggest drumming influence ever...Bonham combined his powerful rock style with jazz, Latin-inspired, and reggae grooves to create a pioneering style all his own. His “signature” drum solo first appeared as a studio version on Led Zeppelin II. When played in concert, it quickly became a fan favorite...lasting from anywhere between six and thirty minutes in length. Though Zeppelin was indeed a four-piece band...it was only the Bonham along with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones who performed on the song...giving Robert Plant a much-needed break during Zeppelin show. Here is the most well-known live performance of “Moby Dick” taken from their 1970 gig at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
