As we wrap up our week-long look at some of the greatest pioneering keyboard players who helped to transform the rock genre, I wanted to end with a band that had a profound impact on my life. One of the first major arena concerts I ever attended was Genesis during their 1983-84 Mama Tour. I had been to other concerts...but nothing that measured up to the audio and visual spectacle of that show. I only knew a few of the radio “hits” at that time....but being a drummer, I was super-excited to see Phil Collins play and sing that night. What I ended up getting was so much more. Long story short...sometime that next week I went to my local record store and purchased every Genesis album I could find. I credit that night with elevating my already strong love and passion for live music. I knew that somehow...someway...I HAD to someday work in the music industry. The rest...as they say...is history. Check out the amazing setlist from that show...and enjoy a live performance of “Abacab” from that tour featuring the great Tony Banks on keyboards.
