Saxon and Uriah Heep on tour together...how could I resist?

Thursday night, an amazing show hit the Tobin Center here in San Antonio, with their Hell, Fire & Chaos US Tour. I’ve been thinking about this show since I heard it announced, and the day was finally here! I’ve loved both these bands for decades. First up:

Uriah Heep

The band came on stage between 7:45-7:50pm, and kicked off with “Save Me Tonight” from their latest album, Chaos & Colour. They played 3 new songs during their set, and they all fit really well with the classic songs. “Hail the Sunrise”, and the banger “Hurricane” were the others from the new album.

The rest of the set was full of classics, from Demons and Wizards, Look At Yourself, The Magician’s Birthday, ...Very ‘eavy...Very ‘umble (one of my favs), and more!

I’ve been a fan since I first heard “Gypsy” from the band’s ...Very ‘eavy...Very ‘umble album, and it immediately grabbed me. Some of favorites got played during their show, like “July Morning”, “Sunrise”, and “Look at Yourself”. The band is tight, they sound great, and they showcase every member of the band throughout the show. Great players, great songs, don’t miss this band the next time they come through town!

Saxon

I am a HUGE Saxon fan. I can’t stress that enough.

They’re one of the best bands on the planet, even if they haven’t gotten the acclaim of others, and their live show is living proof of this every time I see them.

I’ve seen them every time they’ve played near me, and every time I’m blown away at how good they are, and how they shame young bands that just stand there looking at their shoes when they play.

Saxon still plays with energy (Nigel Glockler is a freaking BEAST on the drums), and even if they don’t move as fast as they used to, the power is still there.

Kicking off with the title track from their new album, Hell, Fire and Damnation, Saxon comes out of the gate roaring! The Saxon shows in San Antonio are a bit different than shows in other cities, considering their history with our town...they deviate from their usual setlist a bit more when they come here, give the crowd more choices in songs, play a little longer...it’s amazing.

They did skip “Sacrifice”, from their usual setlist, but they more than made up for it with some extra songs! “Power and the Glory” is always a highlight for me, “Dallas 1 PM” is a favorite for everyone...”Strong Arm of the Law”, “Crusader”, “Heavy Metal Thunder”...all these songs are big for me, and I love how much the crowd is into it all!

The Eagle definitely landed in San Antonio Thursday night. Phenomenal show!
