How could we end a week of celebrating the Greatest Front Men of all time, without talking about the amazing Freddie Mercury?
Born in Zanzibar, Farrokh Bulsara began to learn piano in India, before moving to the UK in 1964.
Not only was Freddie one of the most charismatic and theatrical front men in music, his voice was incredible! Boasting a four-octave range, which he attributes to him having FOUR EXTRA INCISORS, Freddie set a new bar for singing in rock music. His arrangements, songwriting, and presentation were all stellar, owning crowds on stage, and helping bring the music of Queen come to life on albums and on stage.
Definitely one of the most influential vocalists and front men of all time, it’s hard to find any musicians in any genre who haven’t stolen something from this genius.
The best virtuoso rock ‘n’ roll singer of all time. He could sing anything in any style. He could change his style from line to line and, God, that’s an art. And he was brilliant at it.
— Roger Daltry
Of all the more theatrical rock performers, Freddie took it further than the rest ... he took it over the edge. And of course, I always admired a man who wears tights. I only saw him in concert once and as they say, he was definitely a man who could hold an audience in the palm of his hand.
— David Bowie
