Styx Puts the Rock In Rodeo

Tuesday night at the rodeo, taken over by the always amazing Styx! The band hit the stage on February 20th, 2024 with The Grand Illusion, and proceeded to tear the roof off Frost Bank Center with their amazing set! Such a great live band!

After another fun-filled night at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, Styx took the stage at the Frost Bank Center and performed a high-energy set of their greatest hits spanning their fifty-plus years as one of the most enduring rock bands of all time. The rotating stage was set with their opening song “The Grand Illusion” followed by fan favorite “Too Much Time On My Hands”…featuring the pop-synth sound of Lawrence Gowan’s keyboard and the iconic vocals of guitarist Tommy Shaw. Gowan introduced founding member Chuck Panozzo joining them on stage, and then took a seat at the piano to launch into “Lady”…their first ever hit from their second album in 1973 that introduced Styx to a worldwide audience.

The rest of the night was filled with hit after hit, watching Gowan and Shaw trade off on lead vocals…with the exception of the powerful “Miss America” which was fronted by founding member and guitar player James “JY” Young. Other highlights included “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)”, “Come Sail Away”, and an acoustic snippet of “Deep In the Heart of Texas” performed by Tommy Shaw that had the Rodeo crowd clapping and singling along.
